Why do people profess to be very religious but they do not really live by the bible?

Funny, I was just thinking about this question earlier in the week.
One of my sons who is 22 (raised as a jw) does not go to any church, yet is quite moral and level headed.
He met at school a girl and is currently going out with her.
Her parents are fanatical evangilists, and are just flipping out because one of their daughters is not going out with a "true believer"
My son is very familiar with this mindset, seeing it as a jw, but no matter what he does her parents want nothing to do with him.
Many times each week we feed her, in fact my wife got this girl a job at school as a sign language interpreter.
Yet her parents have pretty well disowned her because she is not following their version of the "truth" .
Luckly, she sees their hypocracy, and is continuing on her own life course.
Why is it that these people think that we are the spawn of satan himself,,, even though we are caring for their daughter.
I don't mean to hijack this thread at all,,, just my .02 and experience regarding this type of religious person.

Out and feeling lost, with no friends? Have faith! (my uplifting experience :D)
by teel inmaybe not many of you remember my anguish through the last year since i joined jwn.
in the meantime i lost my wife (the official divorce is due in ~two weeks), lost all my friends (thank god no family though, except the wife), battled the wts and sort-of lost.
just like most of you when you got through this experience i was lost and confused, coult not found my place in life.. i owe much gratitude to this board for giving me the much needed information and support that i am not alone, and what i'm feeling is not something unusual.

all the scriptures i read seems it refers to an enlightening.
or refer to god as light, it doesn't refer to god as new or changing.

Sounds to me like one of those late night info commercials.

dealing with a lack of spirituality
by man in black inhow do you deal with the thought of god after leaving the wts ?.
i left two years ago, and i have always had a certain amount or "need" for a spiritual side of my life.. growing up catholic was good, when my parents became jw's suddenly everything/religion that was not bound together with the.
wt society and their teachings was completley wrong.. so now that i have left, i have a hard time trying to understand different religions.

Podobear :yup, mormonism is quite a trip, and I thought that the witnesses were rightously arrogant.
These people have NO competition at all.
I'm working on my own spiritual life right now. Since my Mom died things seem to have fallen in place a little more.
I feel more one on one with the creator, but there is that "what if" thought process inherited from the witnesses that keeps popping up.

Hi Mr. Flipper, I like your comment "I found the real truth on my own" ! As a witness I heard this from ones who left the religion soon after.
Thinking like this is basically the kiss of death as a JW, unless you are completely in line with their doctrines.
It probably takes quite some time to come to terms with having God and spiritual things not being defined by others. THis
is the main point I got out of this thread, thank you for your comments.
By the way, you posted some time ago information regarding Bigfoot in your area, right ? I found that thread very interesting, your pictures
were very neat. Have you had any new sightings, or evidence ?
